Some Kind of Monster (Metallica documentary)

Metallica. Dude. Damn. Cadin thinks that Dave Mustaine (the guy who got kicked out in the 80’s) shouldn’t feel bad when people yell, ‘Metallica!’, at him on the street and make devil horns with their fingers. Maybe they aren’t mocking him or trying to make him feel bad because he was kicked out of the band; maybe they are just making fun of his hair, since it looks like he hasn’t had a haircut since 1982. Metallica is probably one of the only metal bands that most people know by name.

And as an aside, the lead guitarist for the band, Kirk Hammett, is a 1/2 flip ;)

Brokeback Mountain

A beautiful film about star-crossed lovers. This movie made me cry. I am thankful to live in a place where PDA’s are acceptable and it makes me sad (and mad) that this is not true for all of the United States, much less the rest of the planet.

2 thumbs up.

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

thumbs down. This movie was much more entertaining as a book.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Perhaps if I were younger and had some of the Lemony Snicket books beforehand, I would have been more captivated by this film. The movie was beautiful and fun, but not exactly what I am looking for in a film.

The Incredibles

good stuff!

The preview for this film made me think it was going to be kinkier and sexier. I was surprised that the movie turned out to be an engaging, character driven interpretation of one woman’s journey of self discovery through S&M. I liked it, but Cadin didn’t get it and says, “Thumbs down.”

director: David Cronenberg

This movie was not as scary as I thought it would be from watching the preview. A psychological drama, it was immensely captivating with a captivating story and an excellent cast. I was glad that we had rented the DVD as the extra insight in the special features gave me a better understanding of what happened in the film.
